We're usually singing "Rain, Rain Go Away"
But, a few days ago we decided to just soak it up and play!
My kids and I were outside when the rain started to fall. It was actually beautiful outside and there was no thunder or lightening, so we decided to make rain art. I love this activity because it's cheap, simple and your kids will think you're the BEST mom ever for letting them play in the rain.
You need:
- A Paper plate
- Food Coloring
- Imagination
- Clothes that you don't ming getting spattered with food coloring
The cool thing about this activity is that every plate will be completely unique depending on the colors you use, application technique and how much rain is falling. You can see (below) the plate in the middle was made when the rain was light, so the colors didn't spread too much. But, the other plates were made when the rain was really heavy and it washed most of the food coloring away leaving a stain.
I can't put into words how much my kids loved this! They loved watching their art transform as they stood in the rain. It was almost like simple tye-dye art.
As my 5 year old frolicked in the downpour, he kept saying "This is the most rain in America." After we came inside and dried off, my 3 year old looked at me with a huge smile on his face and said "That was awesome!" And, so it was.
