Taking The Kids to Vote

What a productive day! I took my kids to get their Christmas pictures taken. We followed that with a couple of hours at an indoor playground. Then, we donated some items to the victims of Hurricane Sandy and VOTED!

It was my kids' first time watching me vote for the President of the United States, and I'm really happy they were able to be a part of the process. They've been asking a lot of questions about both candidates, and I think they are just as curious to see who will win, as I am.

Did you take your kids to vote?

November Kid's Co-op

Welcome to another week of the Kid's Co-op!  This is really my favorite time of year to check out blog posts, because people always seem to get very creative as the holidays are approaching. Moms are baking, kids are crafting, and everyone seems to be giving more of themselves.

So let's see that this week has in store for us...

Sesame Street Hurricane Kit

It's been days since the hurricane blew past our area, but the effects of the storm are still coming to light day by day. My parents house still doesn't have power, and watching the news coverage is just heart breaking. The worst part for me is not the damage to people's beach front vacation homes, but those who lost their everyday homes and are suddenly homeless. I can't imagine how they're feeling right now.

Understanding the devastation of a Hurricane can be tough for an adult, but it can be even more puzzling to a child.  Luckily, Sesame Street is prepared to help.  They have a series of videos about the Hurricane, a Hurricane Tool Kit, and quick tips for parents and care-givers. For more information, check out the Sesame Street web site.

Happy Halloween! Do you want to know a really easy Halloween song for kids? I remember learning this as a little girl, and it has stuck with me ever since.  It's so easy to remember and perfect for the autumn season.

Here it is:

A Jack o' Lantern

Instead of Pumpkin Pie!

Feeling Grateful After Hurricane Sandy

As Hurricane Sandy was approaching our area, my family got as prepared as we could, camped out in the basement, and hoped for the best. We were extremely lucky that this historic storm passed by our home without doing any harm.

My heart goes out to everyone who is still dealing with the destruction left behind. Many towns thoughout the coast have been torn apart and it's going to take while for life to return to normal. But, no matter what, we all have a lot to be grateful for and I'm looking forward to working with other local bloggers to help the victims of this disaster in the upcoming months.

Kid's Co-Op: Hurricane Sandy Edition

If things start happening, don't worry, don't stew,
just go right along and you'll start happening too.

- Dr. Seuss

Happy Friday! I hope you've had a great week!

I was just chatting with a friend who reminded me that it would good idea to find some new kid's crafts or activities, Hurricane style. That's what's "happening" around here right now.  Everyone is thiking about the hurricane that is heading our way.

The storm hasn't hit yet, but with Hurricane Sandy approaching the Northeastern U.S. (including my town) lots of people are running to the store for food, batteries, water and other essentials. I already did my shopping, so I think I'll take a few minutes to check out the kid's co-op and find some creative ideas to keep the kids.  There are already a some really cute ideas in the collection, and more will be added over the next week.

Close to the Heart: Kid's Art

Yesterday afternoon, my son decided he wanted to paint. I've always loved art and it makes me so happy to know that my 4-year-old shares this passion of mine. He definitely has that spark that lights up when he is being creative, and I have to admit, it's comforting to have someone else in the house who shares this spark with me.

I helped him open the water-color paints and left him alone to paint at the kitchen table. I knew he was going to make a mess. I even opened up the glitter for him, which guaranteed a good mess. But, that didn't matter. I wanted him to enjoy himself and let his creative juices flow.

When he was done painting, he came to me and was excited to show me what he had done. It was gorgeous!

Of course, I am biased because he's mine. But, there was something about his painting that totally touched my heart. He painted the ocean, the sand and a big yellow sun. Then, there was a splash of blue glitter in the ocean.

He has colored and painted more pieces of art than I can count, but, so far, this is my favorite.

There's something so special about seeing the world through a child's eyes. I can't wait to see what he creates the next time he pulls out those water-colors.

Win $50 to spend at TinyPrints.com

For years, I've been sending out Christmas Cards, but it wasn't until last year that I started getting so many compliments on them. It was the first year I ordered from Tiny Prints and the cards were amazing! The paper was great quality, the colors were perfect and the design was really unique.

This year, I'm going back to Tiny Prints again and I'm really looking forward to ordering my cards. I still haven't decided which card I'm going to pick, but I wanted to share a few of my favorites with you.

This design caught my eye because of the way it accentuates the senders' last name. It really makes it one-of-a-kind!  You know that when you open up a card like this, that it's special. It almost looks like you had a graphic designer make this especially for you.

This Stamp Collection card designed by Natsumi Nishizumi is definitely a favorite of mine. Last year, our card had a different picture for each month of 2011 and it was a lot of fun to see the photos and reflect on all of the fun things we've done. Also, with kids, it's always nice to see how much they've grown too, and with a lot of pictures, you can include a little bit of each season.

As a mom of two boys, who grew up in the city of brotherly love, this design completely caught my eye! This is perfect for a family, like mine, who is filled with brotherly love!

As you can see... I'm a fan of Tiny Prints.  Not only have they graciously sponsored this post, but they've also given me the opportunity to give away a $50 Tiny Prints credit* to one of my lucky readers!!!
